SONA – Explorations in Sonic VR.

SONA is a virtual reality installation that can be experienced acoustically – designed from the perspective of visually impaired people. We enter a dark room in which there is no visual orientation. We experience the virtual reality of the installation via headphones. A motion capture system records our position in the room and the rotation of our head. Sensory shoes record our steps. We hear our steps on virtual surfaces – through snow, in the forest, over scree and on a reactive sound carpet. We walk through an acoustic labyrinth. Virtual walls reflect our echo beam. Wisps call us and show us the way. We learn to see virtual reality with our ears.

A visit to the SONA installation takes about 15 minutes. Appointments can only be made during the AVENGERS Symposium (30.8. – 1.9.2024) directly on site and under this telephone number: 0157 52944427. The number of appointments is limited. Please register from Friday, 30.8. – 14:00 to secure an appointment.
