“The Reunion of the Two Koreas” by internationally acclaimed author Joël Pommerat features several self-contained short stories – as colorful as life itself, funny, absurd, compassionate, with well-pointed dialogues and characters struggling through life, always striving for the highest of all goods, love, in all its forms and facets. Stories such as that of a cleaning lady who dreams of her marriage becoming like it used to be – unaware that her husband has hanged himself; a prostitute who has fallen in love with a priest; two long-time friends whose friendship is deeply shaken; a woman suffering from dementia who no longer recognizes her husband; and a girl with Down’s syndrome who is faced with the question of whether or not to abort her child. In these and other scenes, Pommerat succeeds in capturing and illuminating the inner core of everyday relationships as if through a kaleidoscope, always under the question of the possibility and impossibility of love. An ensemble piece that leaves no one cold and in which all generations recognize themselves. The fact that some of the actors belong to different nationalities gives the play a special touch.
