How do feelings of fear and threat affect people in times of political and societal change? This is the question explored by DIN A 13 tanzcompany in the second part of its inbetweenPOWER project. On stage, there is a diverse ensemble of five dancers: They come from Germany, Turkey and India. Three are men, two are women, and two of them live with physical distinctions. In this production, DIN A 13 tanzcompany also applies the âmixed-abled approachâ in terms of dance and the aesthetics of art. Events on stage are complemented by videos showing the dancers in their personal surroundings.
âin BETWEEN usâ brings greater depth to the choreographic and cinematic material gained through the first part, inbetweenPOWERâ, under the condensed viewpoints of women and men. The focus here is on grappling with personal
experiences of limitation and threat, and with the fear of losing independence and freedom: Are there any areas in which womenâs claims to power are shifting â and, if so, what areas are these these, specifically?
By what gender-specific means is this power won or exercised, and what influence do religious thought patterns and traditional values wield in this regard? How are open spaces developed in which women or men can elude the social conventions of culture or tradition?

About DIN A 13 tanzcompany
DIN A 13 tanzcompany is one of the worldâs few dance ensembles in which the members consist of dancers with and without physical disabilities. Since 1995, DIN A 13 tanzcompany and its artistic director and choreographer, Gerda König â from 1999 through 2020 in artistic collaboration with choreographer Gitta Roser âhave enriched the dance world with new aesthetic categories that constantly challenge and question customary viewing habits in contemporary dance. Assumed boundaries and assessments between physical distinctions on the one hand and excellence in dance on the other are dissipated in choreographic images that ask provocative questions and prompt artistic dialogue. This artistic work spotlights the investigation and visualisation of the quality of movement of âother bodiesâ, an aspect with a diversity that is enlisted for choreographic work that broadens this element and enriches the spectrum of contemporary dance in the process.
