“inbetweenPOWER” is the new international dance theater production of DIN A 13 tanzcompany under the artistic direction of choreographer Gerda König. With special regard to the culturally as well as politically conditioned context of the conception, the DIN A 13 tanzcompany was able to win the Iranian choreographer Mehdi Farajpour (ORIANTHEATER Dance Company) as a cooperation partner. In close collaboration with Jürgen Salzmann (Cultura LiveArt-Kollektiv), who has been a video artist in the dance productions of DIN A 13 tanzcompany for many years, this forms the core of the artificial team. “inbetweenPOWER” artistically deals with the question of what influence feelings of fear and threat have on people in times of political and social change. The subjective feeling of fear and threat is different in every country. It depends concretely on the situation within the cultural context, be it e.g. the political system, the tradition or even the religious influence. The subjective feeling of the personally experienced restriction and threat, as well as the fear of the loss of independence and freedom of the individual was in the center of the choreographic examination. For this purpose, a research in their own living space took place in collaboration with the selected dancers, focusing on the generation of image and video material, which were put into correspondence with the dance material in the development process. Due to the restrictions of the Covid 19 pandemic, “inbetweenPOWER” was subject to external factors of restriction on another level of content. – For the artistic staging, this challenge was used as an additional creative as well as content-related artifice. – Thus, the entire production was created in three countries on three stages – and will be staged live on the German stage, virtually merging the currently existing borders.
