“A good murder, a real murder, a beautiful murder. As beautiful as one can only desire it,” says Woyzeck when contemplating the dead Marie. It is a murder that we find so often in the classics of Western culture: The victim is female. The motive is jealousy and promiscuity. The production ends with the tears of the perpetrator, although they actually tell of femicide, the murder of women because they are women.

In the performance “Sirens cunt be silenced”, the dancers Jaunich and Escribano consider the image of the female as an object and projection screen for lust and sin. They search for connections between cultural and social motifs and question the influence of these artistic narratives on us. In doing so, they use the image of sirens who murder men because they are men, thus twisting the otherwise all-too-easily accepted motif to provoke a re-evaluation. They relate to current figures of femicide and look at ongoing demonstrations. It is about the moment when silent suffering and acceptance becomes a revolution, because it is long overdue to come to terms with the image of excusable murders of passion. There is no such thing as a “beautiful” murder.
