lautLOS1.6 – A multimedia dance installation by IPtanz with two solos by Silvia Ehnis Pérez Duarte and Ilona Pászthy from absence#5 – deconstruction of memory.

Two autobiographically inspired monologues against the disappearance of memory and the power of forgetting. An atmosphere created from documentary material, memories, animations by Anna Mahendra and a stage object by miegL.

Silvia Ehnis Perez Duarte / D / Mexico: Raised in Mexico, Silvia Ehnis has been living in Germany since 2012. Her family from the Stuttgart area emigrated before the First World War, returned briefly during the Weimar Republic, and then settled permanently in Mexico. What traces remain when a life is continued on another continent? “My great-grandfathers emigrated to Mexico a hundred years ago and settled in the German community. The families experienced the Nazi regime only from a distance, and their connection to Germany faded.” Conversations with her family reveal a complex cultural heritage that ties in with Ilona Pászthy’s examination of “perpetrators and followers.”

Ilona Pászthy / D: What invisible traces of the past do I carry within me? How can I trace the memories inscribed in my DNA and their significance for my identity? For years, I have been researching the unexplained areas of my family history, searching for connections between my own experiences and the biographies of my ancestors during the Nazi era. Images from my childhood meet fragmentary information. In my solo performance, I metaphorically approach the blind spots of my memory, questioning identity, conformity, perpetration, origin and epigenetic traces.

“… Ilona Pászthy has succeeded in creating a production that is as complex as it is densely structured. Narrative and dance combine in an emotional moment of movement…” (Thomas Linden, Kölnische Rundschau, 10 September 2024)

Love Eat (never) Sleep

A walk-in dance installation about memory, identity and collective memory.

An immersive experience: dance meets walk-in installation, performers and audience share the stage in a transformable, pneumatic landscape through which the audience moves freely – including a change of perspective.

An air body pulsates, movement splinters into voices, skin and stories. What remains when places and rituals disappear, when the body becomes an archive – made of muscles, breath and scars in the pulse of the space? The space – sometimes a tent, sometimes a bubble, sometimes a ruin. See through different eyes, hear forgotten voices, be part of a fictional world that grows, turns, withdraws and wants to be not only seen, but felt, heard and experienced.

Four dancers use a pneumatic stage set (miegL) to create a fantasy of a new present that is already past. The body as archive, ritual and the dissolution of security in a group context are central themes. Interviews with different generations and backgrounds are incorporated.

“Ilona Pászthy and her ensemble IPtanz have succeeded in creating a fine production that courageously engages with the complexity of memory…” (Kölnische Rundschau / Thomas Linden / 09.09.2025)

LÄRM
a tragic comedy about the stress of everyday life
or
the loudest romance in the world

Sascha and Ivonne have more than just [bleep]ing feelings for each other. They try to [bleep bleep bleep] their love for each other, but they just don’t get along. [klonk] [beep beep]

Be it cardiovascular disorders, headaches, fatigue, anxiety disorders or burnout. The health consequences of too much stress are well known. According to relationship coach and author Jilian Turecki, the inability to deal with one’s own stress is the main reason why relationships fail and feelings of belonging, connection and ‘being together’ are lost.

The SÄCHSISCHE SCHWEIZ kollektiv explores the connections between the concepts of stress, NOISE and communication in relationships. In the production, NOISE becomes an artistic translation of everyday stressors that massively disrupt communication between the protagonists in a tragic-comic way.

The audience observes Yvonne and Sascha in a kitchen. The two are connected by a deep and long-standing, but so far ‘only’ friendly love. They seem to be in conflict and want to find each other, but they are constantly drowned out by the noises of the world. The NOISE of the washing machine, the kettle, the wooden spoon on the edge of the saucepan, the coffee grinder, the highway in front of the house overlay their words. It seems impossible for Yvonne and Sascha to understand each other, and also impossible for the audience to understand Yvonne and Sascha; at least on a verbal level. After the noises in the apartment have taken on a life of their own in a psychedelic moment of overload, silence finally returns and we hear the (loud) thoughts of the protagonists. They have been secretly in love with each other all these years and are full of doubts. The audience joins in the excitement to see if the two can get together despite all the NOISE.

SONDER:SAMMLUNG:5
TO THOSE WHO DON’T

A dance theater about the inescapable functioning in the structure on a recomposition of Ravel’s BOLERO.

i call myself a FLOP on a daily basis.

WAIT. [flop]. WINNING. continue. TRYING. [flopflop] keep going. FAILING. just keep going.

WINNING TRYING FAILING. — WAIT [flopflopflopflopflop] … I am a machine.

A performance dedicated to all who never stop, always doing, acting, producing, NO MATTER WHAT. About always being part of the “machine” – the course of things in a society of which we are a part and which determines our function in global turbo-capitalism.

About the impossibility of not being part of the machine. There is no way out, it lives in us, we live in it, we are it. What this machine does to us and how difficult (or utopian?) it is to stop it.

We are so anchored in the gears that stopping, pausing and asking ourselves questions is simply not in the plan. So the questions accompany us unanswered, sit in the back of our heads like dissatisfied rodents and metaphorically chew our ears off while we continue to strive for clean performance.

Sunday 02.11.2025, 17:00 hrs

RAPT begins with our problematic relationship to the word “more”, which has brought humanity both knowledge and self-destruction, where it now teeters between ecstatic pleasure and absolute catastrophe. In a world made of paper, performer Benjamin Richter develops a choreographic journey of juggling, dance and clowning that subtly expresses the restless desire for “more”. The paper comes into its own in all its materiality: it flies, falls, piles up again, is draped and juggled. Accompanied by a live sound collage, “RAPT” is not a linear narrative, but a web of encounters: Human and object, abundance and care, fragility and perseverance.

A work-in-progress excerpt will be shown in BARNES CROSSING, the premiere of the entire piece will follow in January 2025 at the Orangerie Theater Cologne.

RAPT is funded by: Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW, NRW Landesbüro Freie Darstellende Künste and Cultural Office of the City of Cologne.

Dancers sought a performative exchange with passers-by and local residents. They reacted in very different ways: curious, irritated, hostile and even aggressive. These encounters gave rise to new choreographic impulses, which will now be explored in greater depth in part 2, the stage version.

Part 2 premieres in September 2025 and develops the performative experiences from the public space further – now within a changeable, non-classical stage space that is in constant motion.

Three protagonists personally invite the audience to become part of these spaces – or separate them from the close-up insights they have just gained. The production questions the concepts of closeness and distance, privacy and publicity – and shows how fragile and permeable the boundaries of “safe spaces” can be.

Encounter and demarcation, intimacy and irritation alternate. The dynamic between the performers and the audience creates a dense, immersive experience that is constantly being reconstituted. An interplay of exclusive inclusions and the exclusions that accompany them.

Since 1995, DIN A 13 tanzcompany and its artistic director and choreographer Gerda König, in artistic collaboration with choreographer Gitta Roser from 1999 to 2020, have been enriching the dance world with new aesthetic categories that continually challenge and question the usual ways of seeing contemporary dance. Presumed boundaries and evaluations between physical characteristics and top dance performance are dissolved in choreographic images that provocatively pose questions and invite artistic dialog.
The focus of the artistic work is on the exploration and visualization of the movement quality of “other bodies”, which is used in its diversity for the choreographic work, expanding it and thereby enriching the spectrum of contemporary dance.
www.din-a13.de/en

LOST PARADISE is a haunting dance performance directed by Kristóf Szabó and produced by club68köln – the association for disabled and non-disabled people.

Through a combination of dance, theater, radio play, photography, and video art, a multi-layered production unfolds, transforming the space into a vibrant playground of human experience. An impressive stage design and moving video projections lend the performance visual depth and transform the venue into a resonance chamber for memory, resistance, and empathy.

At the center is one of the most fundamental questions of our time:

When is a person a person—and what happens when categories determine value and dignity?

Article 1 of the German Basic Law states: “Human dignity shall be inviolable.”

But what remains of this promise when it cracks in everyday life?

LOST PARADISE is a poetic, haunting appeal against exclusion and pressure to conform. The performance explores the fault lines of our society—between ideal and reality, between inclusion and economic utility. It creates a space for encounter and transformation—an artistic plea for a humanity beyond norms and performance metrics.

The project is complemented by an interactive digital chat platform, Paradise Regained, where visitors can share their experiences of exclusion, judgment, and inclusion—live on site.

Note Performances will be broadcast live on YouTube by the organizer. By purchasing a ticket, you agree to be filmed live and made public on YouTube.

SoloDuoFestival nrw + friends

Since 2009, the SoloDuoFestival nrw + friends has been an annual international dance festival dedicated to the presentation of contemporary dance productions – with a special focus on emerging artists. The festival offers a unique platform for up-and-coming choreographers, promotes artistic exchange between international participants as well as between participants and professional dance makers and creates career opportunities.

Each year, the festival presents 8 – 10 contemporary solo choreographies with a maximum length of 6 minutes and duo choreographies with a maximum length of 9 minutes. We welcome international applications, especially mixed-abled productions. Two duos and three solos will be selected from the programme by the international jury to either take part in international festivals organized by cooperation partner organizations or to benefit from a residency of several weeks in the “Quartier am Hafen”.

Artistic direction 2025:

Ilona Pászthy & Gerda König / Curation of the program 2025: Diana Treder / Ilona Pászthy

Participating artists benefit from:

a professional stage to present their dance pieces
Visibility in front of an international audience and an expert jury
Support with travel and accommodation costs as well as per diems
high-quality video and photo documentation of their dance pieces
a supporting program for artistic exchange and free workshops on contemporary technique and theory

Structure and promotion of the festival

Despite its international orientation, the SoloDuoFestival is the smallest festival format in Cologne. It is supported by the City of Cologne as part of its conceptual funding and by the Kunstsalon Foundation. This funding makes it possible to provide residencies in the Quartier am Hafen and to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the productions selected by the jury.

This year we received 78 applications from over 11 countries, from which 20 productions were invited to participate.

The festival has been held at Barnes Crossing since its inception, but the venue is always sold out and only seats 80. We would therefore like to open up the festival to other venues in Cologne in the future – for example Depot – in order to achieve a wider reach and reach more audiences.

Awarded Solo: ‘MISS TAKES’ by Naomi Kats (ISR)

In “MISS TAKES”, anger emerged with striking subtlety — a delicate interplay between control and fragility, toughness and softness. Naomi Kats crafted a fine understanding of timing, allowing images to accumulate slowly, like a growing shadow in the room, building tension with remarkable patience and abstraction. She created a solo that felt alive, danced, and shaped in the very moment of its becoming.

Naomi Kats is an Israeli choreographer and performer, trained at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance High School and the ‘Maslool’ professional dance program. Since 2019, she has performed with various companies and choreographers in Israel and internationally, including Lotem Regev, Rachel Erdos, Ido Gidron, Yaniv Cohen, ‘Ildance’ (SE), ‘MAZE’ (GER), ‘SUB.LAB.PRO’ (HU), and the Israeli Opera. Naomi’s choreographic work includes participation in the Suzanne Dellal Centre’s platform ‘1|2|3 for Emerging Choreographers.’ Her first trio piece, Don’t Run with Scissors, premiered at ‘THE BUNCH’ festival (IT) in 2023

Awarded Duo: ‘M I Я’ by Darja Reznikova, Sade Mamedova, Maiia Selezneva, Gleb Bondarev (D) *

As they poignantly wrote: “This project reflects a global issue on our social lives, our everyday encounter with ourselves and others.”

The jury is deeply moved by their ability to address the subject of war and conflict in an ambiguous and complex way, as a self-reflection. You approached the theme by courageously examining your biographies and upbringings. With a distinct movement language and a bold, punk-inspired approach to choreographic structure, you brought forth a story about yourselves — about the “ordinary people”, about the places you were born and grow up at, caught in the heart of a storm that has been forced upon you, touched your personal lives and by doing so, also ours.

* M | Я (pronounced ‘MIR’) is Russian and stands for both ‘peace’ and ‘world’. The mirror-inverted R forms the last letter of the Cyrillic alphabet and means ‘I’.

Darja is a Ukrainian born choreographer, dance teacher and researcher in the field of interdisciplinarity. Her company SoBo Productions works in the context of Darja’s ongoing (published) research into inter- and transdisciplinarity and is in line with her SoundBody (SoBo) theory, which explores integrative voice and movement work based on the science of sound and vibration.

Sade Mamedova is a Russian born performer, choreographer and teacher based in Mannheim. She has been working as a freelancer since 2018 and has been recognised for her dance and choreography at renowned competitions and festivals around the world, including the International Choreography Competition in Copenhagen, the ICC.

Awarded Solo Newcomer: Johnny sees from Above, A fourth” by Teresa Curotti

In “ Johnny sees from Above, A fourth”, Teresa Curotti connected to the frenetic pulse of today. The performance reflected back to us a familiar state—a sensation of perpetually hovering between the current moment and whatever comes next. The solo dared to be unfiltered and skillfully incomplete, contained yet deeply expansive. The jury sees a promise of a distinctive choreographic vocabulary emerging within the paradox of anticipated physicality while remaining honest and attentive to the moment.

Teresa Curotti is an Italian choreographer and dancer. She is currently studying for an MA in Choreography at Folkwang Universität der Künste and previously completed a BA in Dance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim. Her work has been recognized at festivals such as Internationale Tanztheater Festival Erfurt, SOLOCOREOGRAFICO Frankfurt, TanzGala Baden-Württemberg and the Solo Dance Contest in Gdańsk, where she received awards and finalist placements.

Awarded Duo Newcomer: “Aporetico”, Francesca Sacchi, Giorgia Enrico

“Aporetico” meticulously weaves space with bodies through unpredictable yet precise choreographic patterns. The duo offers invitations into their universe —through uniform-like costumes, an intimate moment under the lamp, a repeating motif with a scarf, with hands, and between the bodies. The duo emerged from a profound connection to the body, combining it with fresh compositional and cinematic curiosity.

Francesca Sacchi, born in Turin, Italy, 31.03.99, performed for Chris Jaeger in Daddy Shot My Rabbit and toured in Germany, and also danced in the film Rotes Sterne Überm Felde by Laura Laabs.year-long internship with Dart Dance Company, and holds a diploma from Opus Ballet Company,International Choreographic Center, where she also interned.

Awarded Performer: “NUMBER 52”, Katharina Ludwig

Katharina Ludwig shows great versatility as a dancer and performer. She combines different dance styles ranging from ballet to breaking, displays great qualities as a stand-up comedian and handles text well. The jury applauds her ability to deliver a strong critique towards the dance field as an industry while keeping the performance light-hearted and witty.

Katharina Ludwgi received her training at the Iwanson School of Contemporary Dance in Munich and obtained her Master’s Degree in Movement Research from the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. Based in Bern, she currently works as a freelance artist in Switzerland and internationally.
