PILOT PROJECT AVENGERS – for more accessibility in the performing arts
The AVENGERS are a working group consisting of dance, performance and audio artists as well as accessibility experts from the disability perspectives of blind, hearing impaired and wheelchair users.
The aim of our group is to provide advice to the independent performing arts community in order to make it more accessible.
With a toolbox of accumulated knowledge and experience (with a focus on visual and hearing impairments), we support artists from the independent performing arts community in developing and implementing their own aesthetically integrated accessibility measures.
“THE ADVISORY SERVICE:
Producing artists/groups can invite us to a rehearsal or performance or send us a video of the production.
This is followed by structured feedback according to the DAS ARTS feedback method*. This feedback has two objectives:
1. you get an impression of the perception profiles of audience members with certain disabilities. It becomes clear which levels of the artistic work can be perceived, which cannot and which artistic craft is used to convey this.
2. we give you an assessment of which creative accessibility formats are suitable for the specific production from your perspective. This also includes an assessment of the technical implementation as well as the time, personnel and financial** expenditure.
*The “DasArts” feedback method is a structured guideline for the feedback of performing arts/performance and was developed by the Academy for Theater and Dance of the UdK Amsterdam. ** IMPORTANT: We currently have a contingent that can partially or fully cover the costs of our consultation – so if you have little or no funds for the project, that is no obstacle!
Are you a producing performing artist who would like to make an existing or upcoming piece more accessible and are looking for support? Then please get in touch with us at: avengers@barnescrossing.de
From 31.08. – 01.09.2024 we organized a symposium on the topic, see the documentary here.
We have summarized the contents of the impulses and workshops at the symposium in an information compendium. You can download it here.
