ABOUT US

Barnes Crossing e.V. is a self-managed network by choreographers and a professional production and performance space dedicated to contemporary dance and performative arts in Cologne. Founded in 2006, the non profit organization has transformed the distinctive spaces of the Wachsfabrik in Cologne-Rodenkirchen into vibrant, multifunctional studios and performance venues. Over the years, Barnes Crossing has evolved into a central hub for dance professionals, providing not only rehearsal spaces and a professional performance stage but also a platform for artistic exchange and collaboration.

Come and visit us, enjoy the cosy café in the Wachsfabrik and attend our events!

We offer dance professionals rehearsal studios and a communication platform – as a non-profit organisation, we act as a forum for further education, a network provider and support centre for young talent. Artists receive support, can produce, perform and find a home. This constellation allows contemporary dance to have a permanent local presence and enables us to work internationally and locally at the same time.

We focus on the diversity of dance and related performative arts and offer affordable and transparent conditions for residencies and performances. We are committed to making professional production opportunities accessible to all artists so that new voices, established artists and diverse forms of artistic expression can thrive.

Barnes Crossing e.V. contributes to a vital creative environment for the independent scene and, by providing support and independence, creates free spaces in which innovative experiments can be ventured and developed.

The team of currently 7 dance professionals represents a wide aesthetic spectrum of contemporary dance and a significant part of Cologne’s independent dance scene.

Barnes Crossing is actively involved in dance mediation projects that aim to promote cultural education. These initiatives reach out to both local communities and broader audiences, working to deepen the connection between artists and the public and to expand the appreciation of dance as an art form.

Every year, Barnes Crossing organises the SoloDuoFestival nrw + friends InternationalesTanzfestival, which provides an important platform for up-and-coming dancers from all backgrounds. The festival brings together renowned choreographers and new talents from the independent dance scene and offers them space to showcase their work and contribute to Cologne’s vibrant cultural landscape.
